NEW SERVICE: The self-service borrowing and returning

After more than a year of preparatory work, in 2023, the new, modern service of the Kájoni János County Library. 

The self-service borrowing and returning of the books operate in the adult/lending section.

The self-service system, based on radio frequency identification technology (RFID), allows users to borrow and return books to the library without the assistance of a librarian.

At the moment, library users can choose from among ten thousands of publications and borrow books independently at the self-service borrowing desk. The introduction of this modern service was made possible with the financial support of Hargita County Council.

Within the framework of the XVI. Harghita County Days, organized between May 24 and June 4, 2020, the Kájoni János County Library also moved its programs to the online space. With the title of Let's get to know our values! we tried to draw attention to the specific values of our region with a multi-act online quiz game, also providing an opportunity for the player to gain knowledge. Our institution also prepared a rich online program offer for children on facebook’s platforms, with puppet shows, paper theater and fairy tale reading (in Hungarian and Romanian), librarians provided kindergarten and primary school children with pleasure and experience. Our programs could be followed on the library's Facebook page and those interested could also follow the Facebook page of the XVI. Harghita County Days.

Let's get to know our values! - Announcement of the results of the online quiz game series

In the framework of the XVI. Harghita County Days the Kájoni János County Library launched an online series of quiz games, entitled Let's get to know our values! Addressing in the virtual space all those who wish to familiarize better with the specific natural and cultural values of our region, the work of our famous personalities. Between May 24-28, 2020, we made five quiz games available, with a total of 340 responses received by the announced deadline (June 1), with 138 of all responses correct.

OUR PUBLIC SERVICE IS RESTARTED: about 500 visitors - almost 1000 book rentals in the first three days

In the Kájoni János County Library, the public service could be restarted on Monday, May 25, 2020. True, with strict precautions, visitors are received in the foyer of the library, where three readers can be present at a time, keeping the prescribed distance.
Many waited for this day to bring home new readings and bring back long-borrowed books. The great interest is also reflected in our statistical data registered during the first three days: 575 documents were returned to the library on Monday, the first day. In three days, 498 people turned to the library and 976 books were borrowed during this period.

VIRTUAL LIBRARIES, ONLINE DATABASES

During corona-virus every local library is closed. Our library's online service is still working, and it is accesible for everyone. It is especially important these days when everybody is obliged to stay at home and try to find a resolution to learn, to work or to be entertained. 

To reach databases, digitalized collections are very useful nowadays, so we are working continously on collecting as many links as we can, especially in Hungarian and Romanian language, but we found some English databases too.
